Cynthia Villar Vs Filipino Nurses

$

0

Cynthia Villar's answer to question about the Filipino nurses is now a record holder for accumulating millions of haters in just a minute. She is in real trouble and might affect her Senatorial candidacy big time. She irked a lot of Nurses for "generalizing them as a room nurse (caregiver)" on a debate question with only 30 seconds time limit which is  “too short’” for her to explain further on the issue.

Mrs Villar's answer just showed that she has limited knowledge about the nurses working  or migrated to other countries  primarily as nurses and not just a "room nurse". Her carelessness in front of many viewers was offensive and insulting to the nurses who spent a lot of money and time studying, spending sleepless nights for 5 years just to earn a degree for a better life.

Her controversial answer to a panelist’s question (Pagsubok/GMA News).

“Actually, hindi naman kailangan ang nurse ay matapos ng BSN kasi itong ating mga nurses, gusto lang nila maging ‘Room Nurse.’ Sa America or sa other countries, ano lang sila, ‘yong parang mang-aalaga. Hindi naman sila kailangan ganoon kagaling kasi sa ibang country.....”

Cynthia Villar insisted on twitter that she holds “the nursing profession in high regard.”

What do you think of Cynthia Villar’s statement about the Filipino nurses?

Trash Talks During Parties and Reunions and How to Curb Them

$
0
0

How often do you attend parties and reunions and meet a friend or relative who would say negative comments onto you? If you hardly ever encounter this type of people, I say, LUCKY YOU, PAL! I don't know if it's just a common culture in both Filipino communities but I have observed that not only do people engage most with gossip during get-togethers but they also take the time to engage in small conversations consisting of trash talking about others in different tiny ways.

Most Recurring Frustrating Comments

1. “You lost/gained weight!!! What happened?”

These people show that they're shocked to see how you changed since the last time you saw each other. It's as if your body shape and status in life are visually linked. There are only two reasons why this is often said. One is because of envy and another is just to break the ice as they can't think of anything else to say. Aside from the weather, they assume that body figure and fitness topic would always take the limelight.

2. “I love your [insert whatever here].” *Note: With sarcasm

Giving compliments not only spreads good karma and boosts the self-confidence of others, but it also shows observers that your generosity of spirit stems from personal pride. Among the most obvious things to be noticed by peers are the change in hairstyle or cut, dress, shoes, accessories and skin complexion. The problem is that there are people who throw compliments even without true appreciation, and you can hear it in their voice. When this happens, the most normal thing that is expected is to deflect instead of responding with a heartfelt "thanks." Then there's the awkward silence.

3. “I heard you have... Why? You should have...”

Without me having to complete the sentences above, you would have probably guessed by now how they'll end up. These comments can be put sympathetically, empathetically or apathetically. The tone may spell out assurance and convey pride, standing to reason out that you were at fault in doing something they don't think was "more right" or "better" than their "superior" standards.

4. “When are you getting married?”

This is one of the questions mostly asked by elders to singles. The situation gets even more uncomfortable if the person asked is not yet in a relationship, does not want to be married (by personal choice), or is already too hopeless for a marriage. To give more pain to the insult and salt to the injury, you would hear them give out their judgments by stating probable reasons why you have not found an ideal partner in life.

How to Curb Trash Talks

1. Smile

Even if you hear bad things about you, just smile and be aggressive. Don’t fight them with fierceness but feel grateful and serene. Just understand that these people do not have anything else to do in life aside from looking down on others. Let them think that you incredibly love your life as it is now. Consider the powerful message of a real smile and broadcast that confidence in you.

2. Tell Them to Stop

In a straight-forward manner without sugar-coating, you can tell them to stop. Do it politely and they might even feel embarrassed of their gestures and words. You can also excuse yourself from the conversation and go to another crowd. If you don’t see any other friends coming in the same gathering, you can re-route the topic and perhaps tell them about the latest movies you have watched or new findings and health benefits you have researched about the miraculous ashitaba plant, and other more general topics to move the conversation onward and upward.

Wrap Up

Unfortunately, we cannot handle all people and control the way they naturally speak. If they are in favor of indulging in trash talks and say negative things about others, that’s inevitable for their part. But you can curb them by simply smiling and turning conversations to a more positive light. When you recognize these people from afar, try to avoid them at all costs and do not let yourself be associated with them. As the saying goes: “Three kinds of minds exist in this world: small minds just talk about people; medium minds talk about things; but the great minds talk about ideas.”

If you are a blogger who is serious about making your blog bigger and better (in terms of ranking, authority and of course, earning), then it's a must for you to check it's backlink from time to time. Why? Here are few reasons.

To weed out bad links. If you are trying to rank for the keywords you are targeting at Google search engine, backlink checking is a must. By this, you can check and see if there are negative links that (links coming from porn, adult, casino or gambling site) points to your site. If some are found, you can then request the owner of the site to remove it or better yet, make Google discount it (via Google disavow tool found at Google webmasters account).

To see what kind of links your competitors are having. At SEO point of view, checking links that your competitors are having, especially if they are ranking highly than you, can give you an idea or two on what to get for your blog or website to reach the rank you are targeting. Some calls this one competitive intelligence. This is one of the biggest reason why backlink checker tools around are being offer with a hefty price tag.

There are still lots of things to be said why backlink checking is important. But the above reasons can surely make you wanted to check few blogs and their backlinks right now. So without further ado, here are two awesome backlink checkers that you can freely use.

Open Site Explorer by SEOMoz.Org

For me, this one is the best among the free link checkers online. It has a paid option but the free one can kick start your backlink checking campaign in a good way.

AHrefs

For a free tool, ahrefs is surely one of the biggest winners. Why? It gives you great link reports with different kind of details. Aside from the numbers, it also offers reports in graphical presentation which is nice and cool.
Test the tools out and let me know how they helped you and your blog.

by Brent Riggs

If you are a blogger and looking for a good book to read, then this one is for you. I got a free ecopy  of Brent Riggs new book: The Epic Book Guide to Blogging and Online Business. I am not done reading all the chapters yet but I absolutely love this book.  Brent tackled every single aspect  of online business with precise explanation.

"The EPIC Book is over 400 pages packed with information, experience, knowledge, tips, advice, lessons learned, and practical instruction. Not 400 pages of big fonts, wide margins, and huge graphics that eat up a lot space so a big page count can be advertised. The EPIC Book has over 135,000 words, dwarfing typical good eBooks that usually average 20,000 – 30,000 words. Nor it is just a bunch of filler content and stuff you won’t read so I can advertise a high word count.

Every page in this book is useful and relevant, the very best of what I have learned and experienced in the last 15+ years of being online. I was blessed to begin online way back before the general public even knew what “the information superhighway” was, before we all truly grasped what the Internet would become. What you will find in this book is the experience of a long, long time online and countless rounds of trial and error, testing, learning, starts and stops, and a relentless passion to learn everything I can learn about all things blogging, internet marketing, and online business."

Here is what you willl get in  the book: Must-Have Resources, Tools, & Software, Over 100 Killer Blogging Tips, 65 Great Headlines to Get You Started, Over 110 Brilliant Blog-Writing Ideas, 80+ Online Business Tips, Digital Photography 101, A Visual Guide to Online Business, Genesis Week - First 7 Days Of Your Online Business, Over 60 Profitable Online Business Ideas, Over 50 Ways To Make Money Online, Writing, Designing, Publishing, Marketing & Automating A World-Class eBook , Mistakes To Avoid – Lessons Learned From My First Dozen eBooks , Checklist: 30 Things You Can Do To Improve, An Interview With An Online Expert, A Library of Useful Articles, And more, more, more!?

Featured Blog #18. I am so proud to present to you the FBW's featured blog. At last, Papaleng and his Amazing Animals, agreed to be featured here.

Blog Name: Amazing Animals

Niche: General

Blog Description: Some surprising, amazing and interesting animal facts!

About the blogger: Just a funny man who simply loves poetry and Nature.

How did he get into blogging?

I started as an article writer in some paid writing sites. A dear Triond friend suggested that I create a blog and post my published articles there. It's just like 'hitting 2 birds with a single stone' -- a published post earns both from Triond and my blog.

What do you think is your biggest struggle as a blogger?

I know little about the so-called SEO things.

What is the inspiration behind her blog and how long has it been around?

It was May 23, 2011 when I posted my first My first Amazing Animal article. Inspiration? I see God's greatness by simply watching those animals. Every single breed is so unique eh.

What is his favorite blog post and why?

Endangered Species of Butterflies. It is the first article that got a 5-Star rating at Stumble. Also, the first viral article I have. As of this writing , it still gets decent traffic and was viewed by more than 100,000 internet users.

Where do you see your blog(s) years from now?

That, I can't tell, but the sure thing is, my articles caters to students and education is forever.

How does blogging help you financially and career wise?

Not that much in the financial aspect, since foremost I write for passion lang. Career? Perhaps pogi points on my writing portfolio. Also, I am a certified online celebrity na. Just kidding.

Advice/tip you can give to new bloggers to succeed in blogging.
  • Write on things you know much.
  • Write quality and original posts. No spin articles.
  • Always set writing goals. Be it a post a month or 20 posts a day. It doesn't matter.
  • If you are writing for 'bucks sake', be diligent enough promoting your stuffs. Join social forums and be an active members.
  • Always ... give a helping hand to your fellow writers and bloggers.

Tips to Lower Your Website's Bounce Rate

$

0

Bounce rate is the percentage of visitors that come to your page and don't stay for a longer period of time, the visitor leaves without visiting any other pages. A bounce rate of more than 60% means a big portion of your traffic simply bounce back from your blog. It is frustrating to see that the hardwork and time you spent will all go to waste with the increasing bounce rate and even costly when you invested money hiring an SEO and paid ads to get visitors to your site.

A high website bounce rate is a sign that the readers are not satisfied with your blog. Here are a few things you should do to  reduce your blog bounce rate. You may think that  some of the tips are not that important, but if you will apply all, you will  have more regular visitors in the long run.

1. Page load time is too slow

Make your site lightweight and fast loading. Long loading time of your website will surely make the visitor go away to look for another site. To avoid this, make sure that your site is optimized for faster page loading,  eliminate unnecessary flash elements and too much images.

2. Too much Advertisements and Pop Ups

Pop ups can be very irritating and will just drive visitors away from your website. If you cannot avoid advertisements, try to minimize it,we don't want to see all the ads clutter all over the pages.

3. Establish the identity of your website

Show your visitors what you can offer by having a transparent “About Us” page. This page helps the visitors or the potential customers to understand the services and product you offer. “About Us” page, will establish the identity of your brand that will eventually lower your website’s bounce rate.

4. Add related links to your website

Related content attracts visitors. It wont hurt to have related links plugins in your blog. When visitors read your post and see another interesting link, they will keep reading your post until they are really satisfied with it. Linkwithin and nRelate are among the plugins common to websites.

5. Improve your blog template

Bad template design will likely drive your visitors away no matter how good the content of your blog is. Check your template to see which parts needs improvement.

6. Post quality content

Quality content is important for visitors to enjoy reading your post and stay there for a long time. Readers don't like to see a ton of spelling and grammatical errors. Re-read your blog post, and see whether you don’t break up big paragraphs in your content. Use “spell-checker” before publishing your post.

7. Check your post before publishing.

There is the so called "Preview" to check for the appearance of your post. Visitors don't want to see irritating highlights, all caps lock and over sized photos on a blog post.

8. Make you post readable

Readability is important. Font size and Font color can drive your readers away. A font’s main purpose is to be read so get a a font that is easy to read. 12 point font is a minimum but still too small, try to use up to 16 point font, the bigger the font is, the easier to the eyes. Do not used gray or colored fonts, make sure to use black font on any background. It’s more  inviting to your visitors to read content with bigger font.

If you cannot make the changes on your own, it would be best to hire a professional web developer instead so that you do not mess up the entire website.

Basic Tips And Tweaks That Can Increase Adsense Earnings

$

There are lots of tips out there that aim to increase a blog or website owner's Google Adsense earnings. Some of them might be too technical thus preventing you to try it out.

In this article, I will share with you some Adsense tips and tweaks that might shoot up your Adsense earnings. They are quite basic and pretty easy to understand that even a non-technical blogger or website owner can do and follow.

Adsense Ads Placement

Ads placements are critical in terms of getting the most from your Adsense account. Any ads above the fold are ideal to get more clicks from your visitors, but don’t over do it. Make sure that some of your content is visible above the fold and not only your ads. For more of this, check out this guide:
http://support.google.com/adsense/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1282097&topic=1307438&ctx=topic

Adsense Ads Color

If you will take a good look at some of the most popular sites that serves Adsense ads, you will notice that there is something common at their ad colors: BLUE. Blue is the most common and the highest converting color in terms of ads. Why? A blue colored text always translates into a link right? When a person or visitor sees a blue colored link, more often than not, they will click into it. So make your ad title BLUE and leave the rest (body and url) in any color that complements your website or blog style and theme.

Filter Low Converting Ads

When I say low converting ads, they are the ones that are not suitable or appropriate for your visitors. They are the ones that are not related to your niche, for example, you have a food blog and Adsense shows an ad about web hosting. Try to filter or block them out and see if this can work for you. You can do it by logging into your Adsense account and heading over to this location:
https://www.google.com/adsense/v3/app#allowAndBlockAds. And for more information about filtering and ad blocking, check this link out: http://support.google.com/adsense/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=180609.

If you will follow my above tips and tweaks, make sure to test and record the changes and its effect. Let the changes you made sit for a week or so and see if your Adsense money will grow.

Awesome Summer Destinations In The Philippines

$

Philippines is known for its wide array of awesome summer destinations. There are beaches, parks and even hotels around the country for locals and tourists to choose from. If you are a foreigner who wanted to visit and spend some time in Philippines for great summer getaway experience or a local who just wanted to cool down the heat of summer, then this article is greatly helpful for you. In here, you will find my list of Philippine's top summer destination for you to check out. Here it is.

Boracay

One of the busiest places or resorts in the Philippines when summer time hits. The white powder like sand of Boracay along with its deep blue water and scenic view is what makes locals and tourist flock their way into this place. Just like Baguio, this place can be pretty much become crowded during summer and even holidays.

Palawan

Palawan isalnd is the perfect  place to spend a vacation. If you want to get away from the busy city life, you don't want to moss this beautiful small piece of heaven. Located in the province are two of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park and the Puerto Prinsesa Subterranean River known in the world for its breathtaking Underground river.

Baguio

Summer in the Philippines is almost synonymous with the word Baguio City. Baguio City is not just a word though; it's a city that is dubbed as the summer capital of the Philippines. The place is known for its cool climate along with great scenic views. The park within the city is quite a popular place as well. Baguio City is pretty jam-packed during the summer so if you want to visit the place, better plan it few months before the desired date in terms of accommodation and hotel reservations.

Siargao

This is my recommended place to relax and spend some time during summer and holidays in the Philippines. Why? Aside from the great view and world class beaches this place can offer, it's quite not that overcrowded during the summer compared to the above 2 mentioned places. This place is perfect for surfing, diving and snorkeling. Accommodations and food in this place is pretty much affordable too.

The above 4 places are just few of the many summer spots the Philippines can offer. Drop by at this blog again for other list of summer destination that might come out very soon.

What’s More Important For Your Blog Than Google’s PageRank

$
0
0

We all know that Google’s PageRank is pretty important for bloggers and their blogs. It’s one of the barometers, or let me say, a way to measure blog’s authority and dependability in terms of information, content it serves and link power it can give. But nowadays, website authority and importance is not measured by Google PageRank alone, there are far more important stuff that every webmaster must take a look at and I listed few of them below.

Domain Authority Or Rank

If you will notice, there are advertisers who ask or require certain level of domain authority. Domain authority is measured by a lot of domain characteristics and stuffs that might contribute to its ability to get traffic and rank. Domain age, link popularity and size are few factors that contribute to the level of domain authority a certain website can have. There are free tools out there that you can use to check your websites’ domain authority. One of the most popular is the opensiteexplorer.orgof seomoz.org.

Social Popularity And Influence

The world and internet is getting social. So we, blog owners and webmasters must ride or go along with the flow or else we will be left behind. Your blog or your brand’s social popularity and influence matters a lot nowadays. It just shows how huge your community or followers are. The higher the social popularity you have the more traffic and visit your website or blog will have. Social popularity can be measured simply by the number of tweets or retweets, Facebook likes, Google + shares, YouTube views, Re-Pins or even likes and views from Stumbleupon.

Blog Comments

Some may or may not agree with me at this one. But for me, the comment each and every blog or websites gets plays an important role aside from Google’s PageRank. The comment your blog receives shows the kind of readership or community your article is reaching. By the way, I am not just talking about the numbers; it’s also about the quality of comments.

So what are your thoughts? Any questions, reactions or clarifications? Let me hear them all via the comment section below.

Featured Blog - The Chronicles of Love Mindanao

Featured Blog #19: Our featured blog, The Chronicles of Love Mindanao  is the FBW Top Travel Blog of 2012, beating out 42 other nominees. Every blog post is a great way to share the author's travel experiences and inspiring images to his readers. The pictures alone are worth more than a thousand words, while the story behind the pictures are just as fascinating to the readers.  Let us learn more  about the author of the Love Mindanao who  inspires more people to travel not only to Mindanao but around the Philippines as well.

Blog Name:The Chronicles of Love Mindanao
Niche: Travel Blog
Blog Description: The blog site started as a personal advocacy to overturn the general public’s negative impression about Mindanao by promoting its rarely seen and unsung paradise hidden in the most deprived Christian and Muslim communities in the Philippines.

About the blogger/Tell us something random about yourself.

I hate the limelight the same way I hate sitaw (string beans). I turned down several offers to work abroad and decided to put my degree in practice as environmental specialist in Mindanao and ended up very very poor. I love the perceived ugliest living creatures either plants or animals. Keeping in touch with wild birds and snakes and any carnivorous plants seen in the forest keeps me alive. A beach lover, but never lasts in the water for more than five minutes.

How did he get into blogging?

I was so lonely working in the most secluded community with the most beautiful preserved natural environment in Surigao del Sur. There are no other means of entertainment other than rowing a boat to the river and singing in a cheap videoke bar. So, with nothing much to do, I hit the net and activated my blogger account and started sharing my unique travel experiences purposely as an advocacy for uplifting the negative impression about Mindanao.

What do you find to be your biggest struggle as a blogger?

Communication. It sounded so odd, but, I am really having a hard time to convey what I really wanted to tell to my readers. Since my blog is a form of an advocacy, I wanted to make them feel what I actually felt in a particular place, people or culture I am featuring. I am not a professional writer and the only reason I am able to write is when I am deeply inspired emotionally and things just flow naturally.

What is the inspiration behind his blog and how long has it been around?

It started just last June 2012 when I got myself hooked into sharing my travel experiences through blog. But what really inspired me to write was when I saw the Manobo Children of Inadan of San Miguel Surigao del Sur, who live in the most serene and beautiful mountain place, but left with little hope to finish their education due to extreme poverty. It was an ironic situation that the place is rich with beautiful natural resources yet the community dwells deep into poverty. And with nothing else to do during that  night I wrote everything I can remember especially my encounters with the indigenous community, hoping someone would pick it up and start to trigger a fire of hope for these people.

What is his favorite blog post and why?

So far, my favorite blog post would be my Tawi Tawi Series. It changed everything about my perception about our Muslim brothers and sisters and the whole ARMM and the freedom they are fighting for. Learning it first hand with the people of Tawi Tawi is far different from what is being shown in the media. I have seen the truth, the sincerity and hospitality of the original dwellers of Mindanao. My jaunt in this part of the country is a ‘nirvana’ to which I could really vouch for all Filipinos that just like anybody else, the people of Mindanao only seek peace and want to live in prosperity. For me it is the happiest place where I experienced true freedom away from the norms of our current society. I could just walk on the roads of almost 100% friendly Muslim populated barangays and some are even “kikay”. I can even wander alone in the farthest country side and run and lie down in their deserted airport’s airstrip- unharmed!

Where do you see your blog(s) and yourself in 5 years?

I am not aiming my blog to become a household name in the future but hoping it serves as a reference and triggers our fellow Filipinos and even the outsiders to extend their assistance to our brothers and sisters in Mindanao instead of avoiding them. I just hope that my message be received by everyone about the unspoken truth. It maybe not in my lifetime but still my hope flares high that my advocacy will have its fruit in due time.

I’d like to set this blog as an inspiration, saying that I can do more and be a productive citizen of my country. So, if I can do blogging and it inspires others, it means I can also do other things beyond my limitation in the coming years. We just have to wait and see what the future have prepared for us.

How does blogging help you, in terms of life and career?

Financially, I am not going to depend on it. But this platform introduced me to a wider audience that enhanced my personality to be more open. Blogging is like a diesel fuel which slowly triggers to develop my personality positively and continues pushing me off to my limits. I have now a wider audience that connects to my passion and giving more inspiration to continue on what I am doing right now. Blogging may have brought me a checkered life and career but at least I don’t adhere to the expensive norms of our society. Carpe diem!

Advice/tip you can give to new bloggers to succeed in blogging.

Blogging involves writing and I would like to quote “Professional writers are amateurs that never quit!”- by anonymous. Consider this platform as a medium to share your aspiration in life and not merely a source of additional income. Write passionately and accept criticisms. Seek the advice of the seniors and always remember to connect to the heart of your readers and never fail to thank them as well. They are the bloodline of your blog’s existence.

thank you.

Dearest Senator Binay,

By the time this letter is done, you would have probably become elected Senator of my beloved country. I will not say that you were elected because the majority of our electorate are illiterates who cast their ballots simply on name recognition. I will assume the best in that they see in you, someone who can do her best in the legislative body of our land.

I would like to review with you though what you said was your greatest qualification to hold public office: that you had 20 years on-the-job training with your parents. I will not question how important this may have been, but I question whether it is truly enough.

As a physician born into a family of physicians, I too had over 20 years on-the-job training before I entered medical school. I requested for a medical toy set early in my years to learn to examine inanimate objects in the house masquerading as human replicas. In my elementary years, I would sit in my mother’s clinic, writing prescriptions for her many patients. In my high school years, my grandmother became frail, requiring my parents to provide more medical care to which I was witness to. By the time I applied for medical school, I had probably seen more patients than some fourth year medical students in their lifetime.

I always had a question whether I should pursue my dream in a school where my parents were better known as it was a double-edged sword. If you did well, they would say your parents and your name helped you out. If you did poorly, they would ask how it was possible that you could be so stupid when you had brilliant parents. So believe me when I say, I can understand your predicament.

Our pathways diverge however, as I had to apply for my position. You might say that being elected is also a form of application but I had to defend myself. My interviewer for my application asked me this question, which still rings in my ears today, even after twenty-two years: “Do you think that you deserve to be admitted to this medical school just because of your family name?” I could have taken offense but I understood where this was coming from. There were numerous applicants for such limited slots, some probably definitely more deserving but my name was calling out to feel more deserved. If you removed your surname, would you still feel you have enough qualifications for the office you applied for? I rattled off my achievements, never once quoting my association with my surname. I felt I deserved it. What we truly feel however, will be left to us and our conscience.

I was accepted into medical school and I went through classroom activities, where I was held responsible by my professors. I went through clerkship and internship where I was held responsible by my residents and mentors. I went though residency where I was held responsible by my attendings and my hospital. Someone held me to my actions at every point in my desire to be a doctor. I know you have held a position as a personal assistant to your parents. Unfortunately, I do not know how much our parents will hold us responsible for our actions. To my mother, I was the most intelligent and handsome son anyone could have. My superiors and mentors made me realize that I was not. I am sure that to your parents, you are the most able and beautiful daughter anyone could have. That is how parents should treat us, but that is not the way a boss or superior would.

I have been a physician now for nineteen years. I am always held responsible by my patients. I have been held responsible, by someone else aside from my family for over twenty-two years. I have been responsible for the lives of a few thousands of our countrymen. Your OJT is actually Opening Just Today. You will be held responsible for the lives of almost a hundred million Filipinos. They will not be as kind as your parents, as I am sure you have had a taste of. You have said that this was a calling. I hope you have prepared well for it as I certainly prepared for mine.

You might say that your voice in the Senate is only one of twenty-four. If that voice remains silent in crucial moments, it may spell the difference for our country. If that voice cannot defend the legislation it aims to pass, you might as well leave the lawmaking to someone else. If that voice will only serve as the speaker from which emanates the voice of another, then the voice at the microphone should have been the one to get the electorate’s votes.

I did not vote for you as I believed and I believe you do not deserve my vote. But the beauty of democracy is that I should learn to abide by the voice of the majority, no matter how uninformed I feel it may be. My choices have not always won elections. If they do, I pray that their path follows the way my conscience and my mind convinced me to vote for them. When people like you win, I only have one prayer: to be proven wrong.

Mine is a voice that you may never hear but I have never stifled it with the fear of creating waves in the calm waters. The ripples I make will hopefully make you gather your oars and work your way back to shore. You are not perfect and neither am I. I sincerely hope though that you work towards it and I will happily see how much more imperfect I am.

A citizen of the republic.

Patrick Moral, MD

Filipino people were unkind to Nancy during the election period, calling her "dark skin" and all kinds of "bullying" just because she has no prior history in public service and aimed for a Senatorial position right away. This is not new to us anymore, celebrities like Joseph Sstrada, Tito Sotto, Lito Lapid, Ramon Revilla Sr/Jr, Joey Marquez, Alma Moreno, Manny Pacquiao, Lani Mercado, Anjo Yllana. and more, are all over the politics who knows nothing, they did not even finished college education nor had an OJT training. Come to think of it, between the showbiz people and Nancy, who do you think are the worst candidates we ever had?

Defending One's Copyright

Protektado ka ba? Copyright on the cyberspace

Insulted and violated – that’s how I felt upon knowing early last month that another blogger copied word-for-word without permission one of my blog entries which deals with cyberbullying. The blogger mentioned my blog The Filipino Scribe toward the end of the post, but it’s not sufficient clear that it is the original source of the material.

I contacted the blogger, and he merely said "Ok...sorry about that" in response to my email demanding that he delete the plagiarized entry. There's no attempt to explain whatsoever, and there's no sign of contrition. Nevertheless, to his credit, he took down the post I am complaining about on the same day.
Some people think that intellectual property protection and copyright are too complex for them to understand, given all the legalistic discussions surrounding it. Copyright infringement happens all the time. We most likely know someone (if we’re not guilty of it ourselves) of purchasing pirated movies from areas like Baclaran, Cubao, and Quiapo.

Most teenagers are probably not aware that they too are committing this serious offense when they download all tracks in Justin Bieber’s latest album from sites like 4Shared.com. And by the way, do you have a legal copy of Microsoft Word in your computer? Even bloggers are guilty of this too, occasionally.
Some actions like using others’ photos or drawings without seeking permission first is one. So is copying others’ blog entry word-for-word or perhaps significant portions of it without any attribution a la Tito Sotto. Other cases of copyright infringement aren’t as clear cut.

When you copy someone else’s blog in its entirety and post it on your site but with attribution, it isn’t copyright infringement yet. Using excerpts is acceptable, but reporting an entire item is not right. Google, for instance, punishes bloggers who post duplicate content. Ergo, offending blogs does not only siphon web traffic away from your site. It also endangers your PageRank.

Copyright protection is important for individuals to make sure that they benefit from the effort they exerted for their work. It will be wrong to say that a person who asserts his or her copyright over his or her work is only after the money. Intellectual property rights will always be more than just about getting financial compensation.

Respecting others’ copyright is also about humility. In many ways, respecting copyright is as simple as being humble enough to recognize that others helped you develop your outputs, directly or indirectly.
As a blogger, you have to recognize how others’ ideas helped you formulate your own. Somehow, Confucius’ golden rule can be used as a good code of conduct re copyright protection on the blogosphere. How will you feel if others use your work without any acknowledgment?

Copyright owners (a term which, upon cursory view, can actually refer to all of us) have to forcefully assert their rights. This can be started by being vigilant (e.g. Google keywords you used in your blog to monitor duplicate content). When you see come across an offender, try to call his/her attention first. If this fails, you can always call the attention of Google. This is not a one-way process, of course. Bloggers has to develop a culture where respecting copyright is the norm.

In my two years as a blogger, I may have been guilty at one point or another of copyright transgressions. Nevertheless, since I am now more aware of the law, I try my best to be as careful as possible. Bloggers want to be treated at par with writers in more traditional forms. How can they command respect when they can’t even follow something as basic as respecting copyright?

Featured Blog #20 Our featured blog needs no introduction. All we can say is, you don't always see three thousand plus comments in a blog post. If you are looking for the hottest, controversial and most entertaining posts, make sure to visit SWN and be one of the readers who gets  carried away with heated arguments among commentators.

Blog Name :So, What's News?
Niche : humor/satire (niche talaga  )
Blog description:“So, What’s News’ news are news that won’t make you depressed to read the news”.

SWN, is a satirical & fictional news website. Our aim is to inject humor into everyday news to provide respite to readers who have grown weary with mainstream news organization’s partisan, biased and depressing way of presenting the news.

News on this website should not be taken seriously and to be taken with a grain of salt.

About the blogger/Tell us something random about yourself.

I am Stewart, the 31-year-old guy behind SWN. My goal on this blog is actually to spread laughter/humor via putting twists into everyday news, that would hopefully spark conversations and debates. I try to make each post unique and funny but with the understanding that I cannot please everybody. Some may not be into satire while some may dig the humor.

What’s the inspiration behind your blog and how long has it been around?

The inspiration behind my blog is similar to a Humor/Satire blog in the US called The Onion. I would literally laugh while reading articles from their site.

At first they were free, but nowadays, they sadly charge subscription fees for the readers.

I believe that laughter is to be shared to everyone and should be free. This is actually my drive to keep doing what I do. I do not earn from my blog, but the comments from readers telling me that they are laughing finding it funny, as well as sharing them is rewarding enough for me.

SWN was started last September 2011.

How did you get into blogging:

I started blogging during the Geocities-era with a blog called WTF-online. I cannot remember what was covered there already and since its closure, I moved to Blogger and then to Multiply. I wrote anything that was on my mind on those blogs, but on the Multiply side, mostly my dates with my then girlfriend who is now my wife.

What is your favorite blog post and why?

I guess my most favorite was my first post that went viral: "After Anti-Planking, Lawmaker Proposes Anti-Angry Birds Bill."

It made me realize the power of social networking in trying to spread a message. It also taught me to keep on writing for the blog to reach a much broader audience. That is why I try to cover enough topics, be it politics, gadgets, entertainment or sports, but of course injected with humor.

What have you learned from writing in SWN:

This is actually a comment from one of my readers, but it perfectly encapsulates my sentiments: "Satire is a strange thing. We don’t always get it. That’s why we should read it more often. "

Thanks for featuring me on Filipino Bloggers Worldwide. Mabuhay ang Pinoy!

Vice Ganda on Jessica Soho as a Rape Victim

Vice Ganda, one of the Philippines stand up comedian and host  is now in a limelight for  mocking GMA Information core Jessica Soho during his show last May 17. Vice ganda started the two minute monoloque that  if ever Jessica will do a bold movie the title would be “Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Sobra,”. Vice Ganda  joked about  Soho having a hard time using a weighing scale, “Ang hirap nga lang kung si Jessica Soho magbo-bold. Kailangan gang rape lagi. Sasabihin ng rapist, ‘Ipasa ang lechon.’ Sasabihin naman ni Jessica, ‘Eh nasaan yung apple?”

Saksi anchor Arnold Clavio  reacted with the offensive joke  through the opening salvo of his morning program in DZBB. “Bakit mo binibiktima ang mga taong seryoso sa trabaho nila? Huwag mo silang kasangkapanin para lang makapagpagpatawa. Bakit hindi taga-diyan sa inyo ang gawin mong subject ng jokes mo? Bakit hindi taga-ABS-(CBN)?” he said.  Other GMA News reporters followed shortly on twitter that focused on Vice  alleged insensitivity to gang rape victims.

Jessica Soho reacted to the issue  with an official Statement sent to GMA News Online:

Rape is not a joke and should never be material for a comedy concert. I thank all those who shared my hurt and expressed their support but this should not be about me but about the rape victims who suffer tremendously from this terrible crime. The horrors they go through are unspeakable who suffer tremendously from this terrible crime. The horrors they go through are unspeakable.

Most showbiz personalities use other people just to make their audience laugh. One good example are the two famous tv show hosts Willie Revillame and Joey De Leon.  Vice Ganda, Jose Marie Viceral in real life is now in the hot seat for using Jessica Soho as a laughing material. The issue issue here is not about Soho's weight but the "gang rape". Rape is a very sensitive issue and should not be use as a joke. Anyway, Vice Ganda is known to this kind of distasteful joke and his fans (masa) loves her for what he is. No wonder he enjoys what he is doing and do not mind what others will feel with his insensitive jokes and comments
