Featured Blog #16 I hope I made the right decision for featuring  Edmar's site in FBW. Seriously, the site is one of the best Travel blog in the Philippines, very informative and entertaining.

Blog Description: EDMARATION #TownExplorer is a motorcycle adventure travel blog of a practicing Pinoy Nurse in the Philippines who calls himself as "The 1 Day Town Explorer" exploring towns with his motorbike usually within 1 day.

The blog aims to explore all the towns in the Philippines by using a motorbike particularly (or any other means) and make a blog post to every town visited. This blog is set to feature 1-day itineraries to every town so that readers will have an idea on how to explore a town in 1 day especially for those travelers who only have limited time to travel like him.

About  the blogger:

Edmar is a 24-year-old practicing nurse by profession, an off-road motorbike rider, adrenaline junkie, geography-freak, God-fearing, Editor-in-Chief of company newsletter, a band vocalist, music lover, plays the guitar and keyboard, certified Kapamilya, the eldest of three handsome hunkie boys (LOL) and an aspiring lawyer (a certified lawstude). But since studying law at night and working as a nurse at daytime has ruined his outdoor-ish lifestyle, he has chosen his priorities ending up his journey at the law school (temporarily). After several semesters at the law school giving him more free time and setting aside reading all those thick books of the law and jurisprudence, he started his travel blog where he documented all his travel experiences. He used his free time wisely for traveling and blogging. Traveling is his first love so it is his priority because it makes him feel contented and satisfied in traveling while blogging is his outlet making him feel less stressed. Edmar works 8 hours a day, 6 days a week with 1 day off a week but he can still manage to blog and travel at the same time.

How did he get into blogging:

I started blogging because of my love of talking. I am shy-type, a bit melodramatic but once I get my momentum, plus a topic I love most, I talk a lot. Because I hardly get a time to talk about the things that I love due to the reason that I can't seem to find a person with the same species like me who would listen and interact with me, I started my blog to unleash all the semi-overflowing ideas in my mind. This blog started as personal blog of anything under the sun until I decided to make it purely about travel and lately I also made my own food blog, entertainment blog and motorcycling blog.

What is your inspiration behind your blog and how long it is around? My inspiration in blogging would be the beauty, amazing culture and exciting destinations in the Philippines. There are a lot of them to see and putting up a travel blog to document them would be the best way I know to promote them. Edmaration.com was born on February 27, 2011 out of scratch.

What is his favorite blog post and why?

Advice/tip you can give to new bloggers to succeed in blogging.

I have a lot of advice and tips. Blogging is not only confined about "passion" because that is the first thing you should have when you want a blog, meaning, that should be given for a blogger. Aside from passion that has been given as a "cliche" reason when someone asks how to succeed in blogging, there are a lot of things a blogger must do to succeed and I am particular about the branding and technicalities.

1. Be a reader: (I am giving all these pieces of advice as a 'reader' and not a blogger.) I read many blogs a lot, and we also need to be a reader at times, not purely be a blogger. Being a reader will make you learn a lot and to compare which is better. So when I blog hop, I can see that this one is better, or that one is more helpful wherein I may also apply to my blog. So for the following pieces of advice, I will be sharing my advice as a blog reader and not as a blogger per se.

1. Don't be hypocrite: Be true to yourself: Don't appear as if you don't want to be famous or to earn via blogging (unless you really don't want it, which I doubt :p). There is nothing wrong about that! One thing that could be bad is that when you are pretending as if you don't want to be famous or to become financally able via blogging. Your readers will love you for being true to yourself but please don't blog as if you are famous or rich all the time, duh. So where is the passion for that matter? I told you passion should be given and must be constant if not accelerating.

2. Create branding: Branding is important. Your brand is like your name. Offer something that will make your blog unique. Think of something that will make your blog be remembered. Like for example, a food blogger that goes to restaurant with a cat, a travel blogger that is focused about low-rise mountains, a mom-blogger that travels with kids without her hubby or anything that will make your blog unique. It pays to be creative and unique. Don't say you don't need branding, in the long run you will need it. Although you might succeed by becoming generic, just think about the success of Colgate, Coke, Pampers and Payless. They all have a brand and they just don't simply market themselves as toothpaste,softdrinks, diaper, and instant noodles, they market for their brands.

3. Give readers a reason to like you, don't force or ask them to like you. Sometimes this is a challenge. Forcing or asking others to read your blog by sending them your links via PM or any other means like tagging them in your facebook all the time you have a new post or mentioning them in twitter all the time without being asked to do it could make you appear frustrated in gaining traffic and readers. Although it is not really bad to do it, but doing it everytime you post a new article could be annoying. Calm down, do it when it is really "needed." Doing it all the time can annoy your readers or friends. So how can they like you for that? Just blog quality posts and in the long run, readers will chase after your blog.

4. Be friendly and humble: Don't act as if you are better with this blogger or that blogger. The thing is, we have different niches, different type of audience, etc. Blogging is a community and the more you become friendly and humble, the more people will love you. The more friends you have, the better.

10 Top Places to Visit in Qatar

Qatar is a small but rich country in the Middle East, a peninsula bordering the Persian Gulf and Saudi Arabia with an estimated population of total population of about 579,000 in 1998. Only 20 percent of the population are Qatari, with the remainder being foreign workers. The current Emir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, has appointed his fourth son, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, as Heir Apparent on 8 August 2003, after his older brother Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani (Crown Prince
between 1996 and 2003) renounced his rights to the throne in favor of Sheikh Tamim.

Here are the places that you must not miss to visit when traveling to Qatar:

1. Museum of Islamic Art

Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, the largest museum in Qatar.opened to public in December 2008. The museum's building was designed by famous architect I.M.Pei and located  on a tiny island in Doha harbour. It houses collections of Islamic artifacts in the world. Visitors can admire collections of ceramics, jewelry, glass, items made of ivory and  more. Exhibited items come from Spain to India.
2. Zubara Fort

Zubara Fort was built in 1938 on the remains of an older castle.  It served as a station for coast guards until 1980 and became a museum  in 1987  which houses exhibitions of pottery, coins and other findings from the nearby archeological site of Al-Zubarah town.

3. Doha Zoo

The Zoo may not match the Western Zoo in terms of quality and animals, but it is still a good place to visit if you have kids. The zoo is under renovation at the moment to  make it a world wide tourist attraction and has a very long way to go to reach it objective but knowing Qatar and their money, this will happen. Doha Zoo has a good display of local desert animals and birds, making it a worthwhile 'first stop' for those going on desert safari. There are some native Qatari species, including Oryx and ostriches.

4. Porto Arabia - The Pearl Qatar

The Pearl-Qatar is a man-made island under construction off the coast of Doha, Qatar covering 985 acres (400 hectares) and fronted by more than 12 miles of pristine beaches. The island retreat is set to become an exclusive home for 40,000 international residents as well as a sought after holiday destination for 800 guests enjoying three marinas, three 5 star hotels.

It also has the finest shopping, dining, entertainment space,  luxury vehicle dealerships and bespoke jewellers to fresh-from-the-catwalk designer wear. The festive centre of Porto Arabia is Ras Croisette, complete with late-night restaurants and lounges for year-round entertainment.

5. Qatar National Museum

Qatar National Museum is biggest and most significant museum Doha, the Capital of Qatar . It is well known for its extensive collection of artifacts and relics on the religion of Islam. It is also a one stop shop for those who wish to explore the country’s geological history. This museum is currently closed due to construction of a new building. It should be finished in 2014.

The museum houses some interesting displays on the architecture styles of Qatar, medals and awards given to the nation by foreign leaders, descriptions on flora and fauna, a special section on oil and gas, a section on Bedouin tribesmen and much more.
6. Barzan Towers

Barzan Towers were originally built at the beginning of the 20th century as watch towers erected around the Umm Salal Mohammed area to protect the surrounding area from Ottomans that was already defeated but still lurked the land.

Nowadays Barzan Towers attract many visitors from nearby Doha and it is worth the trip even thought during renovation works interiors were equipped with air-conditioning that spoils authenticity of the towers. On the other hand it makes the visit more comfortable especially during hot summer months.

7. Al-Shahaniya Sports Club

Al-Shahaniyawas founded on 27 December 1998, under the name Al-Nasr. At the beginning of its establishment, the club's headquarters were located in Al Jamilla, Doha. In 2001, the club relocated to Al Shahaniya, which is approximately 20 km northwest of Doha, under the decision of Sheikh Jassim bin Thamer al Thani, who was vice president of the Qatar Olympic Committee at that time. The club changed its name to Al-Shahaniya in 2004 by the board of directors, in order to better represent the region in where it is based. It ias a good place to see camels roaming around the desert and camels racing in a purpose-built stadium

8. Doha Heritage Village

Doha Heritage Village is located along the Corniche in Al Rumeilia Park, it is a skanzen based on traditional Qatari village. The visitors get to see pearl trading, weaving, and a dhow, apart from holding festivals and activities. The Heritage Village is also a place where you can shop, eat and listen to music. In two of the tiny houses in the village two men demonstrate the weighing and selling of pearls. The site of festivals and special events, D Visitors can buy books on local culture and language, and a huge range of clay pots.


9. Doha Corniche


Corniche typically refers to a road on the side of a cliff or mountain, with the ground rising on one side of the road and falling away on the other. In the Middle East like Qatar, the word typically describes a water front promenade usually paralleled by a main road, such as the renowned Doha Corniche.


The corniche is a good place for jogging, family picnic and gathering with friends. Oryx, the giant statue of Orry, 15th Asian games mascot is one of its main attraction. Along the southern end of the Corniche is a large Oyster and Pearl statue, and a Water pots fountain adjacent to the Museum of Islamic Arts.

10. Khalifa International Stadium


Khalifa International Stadium also known as National Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Doha, Qatar as part of the Doha Sports City complex, which also includes Aspire Academy, Hamad Aquatic Centre, and the Aspire Tower. It is named after Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar's former Emir.

It is Safe to Let Google Index Your Blog's Categories, Tags and Archive

One of the reasons why I have a doubt on letting search engines to index the Tags, Categories, Media and Archive of my blog is the rumor that Google penalizes duplicate content. Is this idea true or false?


With an aim of reaching the readers – especially the visual merchandisers – of The Creativity Window in fastest way by the help of the search engines, I have put this blog into test by allowing search engines to index the Tags, Categories, Media Attachment, Archive and other pages that could be possibly devoured by crawlers. The result is quite good. Sometimes the tags are on the top of search results.

Another reason why I did that is to prove that there is no harm of letting the big G index the Tags, Categories and Archive of anyone's blog. I'll give you an example later on. An idea that contradicts an issue  about Google penalizes duplicate content was actually been published on the web even before I discovered it.
Let me quote a part of an article from Build my list today (www.buildmylisttoday.com) about myths of duplicate content.

"Now, the real problem lies not with Google or with webmasters but with the rumor merchants. The group of people who purport to everyone else that unless you spin your content it will be filtered out for being duplicate. Perhaps not surprisingly, these people invariable have a product to promote – article spinning software.

The counter argument is that duplicate content is filtered out. This argument  is not only flawed, it is misleading and can cost you money."

Here the concrete example.

I  have an article which was duplicated by someone and published it in different title. The content is exactly the same – no spinning and no rewriting done on the article. Even the color of sub-topics were not change before it was publish, but when the term "visual merchandising elements" is searched on Google, that duplicated content is No. 1 on the search results page.

Why does it happen? Google itself  has the answer.

 The recently updated article of Google Webmaster Tools  about duplicate content says, "In rare situations, our algorithm may select a URL from an external site that is hosting your content without your permission. If you believe that another site is duplicating your content in violation of copyright law, you may contact the site’s host to request removal."

Here is another example.

 I wrote another article about the different types of window display and I use Top 6 Types of Window Display as title, then I use types of window display as tag.

When the terms ' types of window display' is search on Google, my main article appears on the first pages of the results and the tag is on the second page. See this image below.

Again, Google has the answer on it.

On the same article I have mentioned above, it is said that duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results.

Therefore, it is safe to let Google index your blog's categories, tags and archive.

Enchanted Kingdom, Philippines Amusement Park

Hubby and I travels a lot. He loves  to take pictures of every places he visited and  have them all stored in a hard drive. When we moved to US from Qatar, all the hard drives were packed in one of the  foot lockers and I never had the chance to unpacked them. Last month, we moved from Oklahoma to Texas, and some of the stuff were still packed including the old photographs.

One of those pictures were our trip to Enchanted kingdom on our 2005 vacation to Philippines. That was hubby's second trip back home. Hubby loves to travel around the globe and Philippines is his favorite place to relax and unwind. In fact he is planning to retire there with me someday when all the kids are grown.

Enchanted Kingdom, located in Sta Rosa, Laguna, is the first and only world -class theme park in the Philippines that was opened to public in October 19, 1995 and now on its 17 years of giving the Filipino a fun place to spend the holidays and weekend. Right now it is the "Disneyland" of the Philippines. There is no comparison between the Disneyland and Enchanted Kingdom when it comes to size, fun rides, attractions and activities but at least the Philippines is proud to have something to offer to their people.

Here are some pictures taken from my sisters photo album during our  2010 visit to Enchanting Kingdom. You can see how everybody enjoyed the amusement park.








 The rides and attractions are   located into seven park  themed park zones:
  1. Brooklyn Place- Take a journey down the street of Brooklyn, one of New York's five borough and reminisce the years of silent movies and slapstick comedies as entertainers parade down the cobblestone street.
  2. Portabello- The sights and sound of the Caribbean Atmosphere can be found in this zone. Rio Grande is the  parks largest attraction were you can get wet and wild.
  3. Boulderville- Is inspired by the dinosaur era, this prehistoric cartoon zone will capture your kids imagination. Dinosaur mascot and puppet show entertains  everyone who set foot in this zone .
  4. Victoria Park- This park is inspired by Queen Victoria era. Grand Carousel is the zones centerpiece attraction.The parks mascot,"Eldar the Wizard" is here for you to meet,  greet and take photographs.
  5. Midway Boardwalk- Coney Island, "Americas Playground" in the 1930's comes to life in this zone. They have Anchors Away, which I don't recommend so much  coz this is really too scary and breathe taking, Up Up and Away, Bump N' Splash and more.
  6. Jungle Outpost- This zone sets in the the heart of the Amazon in the jungle of Central America. The main attraction is the jungle log Jam and the Swan Lake.
  7. Spaceport- Here we can find the country's first  and only triple loop coaster that  turns riders upside down six times- 3 times forward and 3 times backward.

The Beautiful Tinuy-an Falls of Bislig City, Surigao Del Sur

Who would have thought that we have our own version of Niagara Falls right at the southeastern part of Mindanao? There lies Bislig City a.k.a  The Booming City By The Bay. It faces the Philippine Sea and keeps the beautiful Tinuy-an Falls in Brgy. Burboanan. It is a cascading three falls and known to be the widest in the country. During the rainy season, its thick white waters curtain the stair-like stones where it flows.

A waterfall massage would be nice to have in this beautiful place; truly picturesque and one of its kind. Visitors are allowed to enjoy the magnificent flowing water up to the third level. They were able to set up a 97-steps stairs at the right side of the falls and no one is allowed to go up without a guide. For safety purposes, visitors are not allowed to position themselves near the cliff part. It would be advisable to bring waterproof cameras as well because the mist is too strong even if you’re meters away.

For those who will be visiting this place from Davao City, it is usually included in the Surigao tour packages that would take at least 6 hours of travel. Most of the visitors would leave downtown Davao at around midnight and get to witness this stunning view early in the morning. You can bring along food and just rent one of their cottages. Rates in the place are very cheap for something as awesome as this one.

Tito Sotto on "Copying as the Highest Form of Flattery"

We still read a lot about Senator Tito Sotto and the latest  was the Rappler's post with picture and video titled " Sotto, Enrile laugh off plagiarism complaints." Watching the video and looking at the photo, Sotto obvioulsy laughs just to hide the embarrassment  for plagiarizing but his face cannot hide the  true feeling of guiltiness  while Enrile and the people surrounding him obviously faked their laughs just to ride on the issue for a reason, well after all politics is politics.

"Senator Vicente Sotto III took to the Senate floor on Tuesday afternoon, and offered an apology to the family of the late New York Senator Robert Kennedy for having lifted from Kennedy's speech without attribution. He added, however:

1st Wonder: Kayangan Lake

Kayangan Lake is one of the many famous sites in Coron where you can have your picture taken with a mountain and a gorgeous blue sea as your background. The lake could be accessed through a short trek up a hill (as it's situated above sea level). It’s also been known for its nice mix of freshwater and saltwater.

2nd Wonder: Banol Beach

Your island hopping trip will not be complete without having lunch at Banol Beach. Most tours will offer this with buffet lunch in their package (usually includes rice, grilled fish and chicken, red crabs, seaweed with slices of tomatoes and onions). So after a hefty lunch, you can rest your tummy while basking under the sun or swimming by the beach.

3rd Wonder: Twin Lagoon

Another popular destination in Coron, the Twin Lagoon is known to be separated by a wall of rock formations. This remarkable site was also made famous by its way of entry. You can either glide or float through the narrow opening (the rock is about 5 inches from your face), or climb up an affixed deck of stairs (just on top of the opening). It’s an adventure on its own.

4th Wonder: Coral Gardens

Swim with different kinds of fish by exploring the Coral Gardens. The dive here is worth it.

5th Wonder: Siete Pecados Marine Sanctuary

Another marine sanctuary, Siete Pecados is also a good spot for snorkeling, diving and marine life exploring.

If you have extra time to spare, pass-by the La Sirenetta Restaurant & Bar (you'll know you're nearby when you see the mermaid statues). Order their Penne Arrabiata and Calamansi Juice for your afternoon snack.

A Personal Experience at the 1st FBW Grand Eyeball

December 7, 2012 was a red-letter day for all Filipino Bloggers Worldwide (FBW) members specifically for those who signified their attendance on the first-ever Grand Eyeball for this eminent bloggers’ group. The event was pitched to be the chance to meet like-minded individuals who share the common passion of blogging. This reason alone created such an excitement among members who generally had no other way of interacting with each other except through the online environment.

The chosen venue was SM Megamall’s Megatrade Hall 2 which although was quite far from my end, was the perfect location for most.  It is a known place, easy-to-find, and is quite accessible. The appointed time was 6-10 pm on a Friday so I was already having visions of traffic jams in my head and I sure was not disappointed. Since many blogger-members had to come from work, starting late was inevitable. But once the ball started rolling, there was no stopping the fun, the learning, and the winning.

 
The admins who were present – Ness, Franc, Mai, and Sumi, were true to form in handling the event. Ness and Franc took on the hosting job while Mai and Sumi attended to the important details at the sidelines.  They were of course assisted by many member volunteers who all helped to make the event a successful one.

Special mention will have to be given to Orly Ballesteros of Ex-Link Events for making the event possible, Tristan Khalil for sharing his time and technical expertise, Mark Morfe as the official photographer, and countless others who helped find Filipino Bloggers Worldwide: The 1st Grand Eyeball sponsors or acted as sponsors of the event themselves. Not to be forgotten of course is Jason Cruz who shared his expertise through a seminar that was delivered clearly and to-the-point.


The event featured games, raffles, and an education seminar but more than these benefits is the opportunity presented to form long-lasting bonds and friendships with fellow bloggers. I had the good fortune of being seated together with other bloggers who had different ideas but with the same passion for blogging.  If there was only a Congeniality Award to be given out that night, I’m sure Donald Pagulong and Myrns Geronimo Roman would have won hands down for the male and female category, respectively. When I talked with these two, I would have sworn I have known them for a long time and did not only meet them that day.


Highlighting the event is the awarding of the ten outstanding travel blogs. Topping the list was The Chronicles of Love Mindanao followed by the Adventures of AdventuRoj!, PonderingPaodaolei, Franc Ramon.com, Budget Byahera, South Cotabato, Vivi’s Random Ramblings, Traveling Morion, Pala-Lagaw, and Journey ni Ikoy.  All worthy winners, if I may say so.  Here’s looking forward to more awardees in other categories in the succeeding events.


In my blog, I always end my post with My Say and so here goes:

The 1st FBW Grand Eyeball was a huge success in terms of the purpose/s for which it was planned. It wasn’t perfect as in proceeding without hitches but it was perfect in a way that made sense to the members.  For a first time event, it sure earned high marks. That said, this year’s successful event is no reason to stop aiming for better events in the future. Regardless, attending the 1st FBW Grand Eyeball is a personal experience that I will never forget.

This crescent shaped cove that is filled with great wonders of nature such as unique white sandy beach surrounded by the spectacular view of pine tree forests, marshes and mountains that are inhabited by numerous species of birds is a must see site which most bloggers love to talk about when visiting Pundaquit, San Antonio Zambales. It is  true that this place offers  promising surprises to every visitor, but  what we will share you at the moment is a combination of the must try experiences  when visiting Anawanging Cove plus the expected sites to enjoy.

To begin with, boating would be one of the most obvious must try experience when visiting the said natural wonder simply because there are only two ways to get into the site. You may either choose to go on foot or take a 30-minute boat ride from Pundaquit before reaching the shores of Anawangin.

Next would be hiking - If you are someone who loves to hike and have a trek through forests and mountains, getting to the Cove through a 6 hour walk within the Pundaquit range would also be a great experience. Here you could enjoy being close to Mother Nature as you pass by several pine forests filled with huge pine trees that are called “agoho” by the locals .

Finally, you could also enjoy wading along the seaside – Compared to other beaches, the locals of Zambales are very proud of the shimmering white sand along the shores of the said cove. According to the beach personnel, the white sand originated from the combination of ashes and “lahar” that came out of Pinatubo during its eruption. Thus, nature itself sprinkled the wonderful benefit of sulfur to your skin through the sand.
So if you are someone who either loves extreme nature tripping, then these three activities would surely make your “Anawangin Cove- Experience” be filled with great sites to see and wonderful experiences to share.

Kaangrian Falls: an Ironic Wonder of the North

“Kaangrian “----- a word which literally means “smelly place” in English is indeed an Ironic name for such a wonderful gem that lay hidden amidst the forest of Barangay Paayas Burgos, Ilocos Norte. Being known as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country, this multi layered waterfall forms a scenic stair like view which makes it look extraordinary. Aside from the that, Ilocanos are indeed proud to say that  such natural scenery is well preserved and taken cared of that is why there isn’t any doubt that Kaangrian Falls continues to be a must see spot when traveling to Ilocos. What we have right now is a travel guideline insight which you could use if you opt to travel town of Burgos to unveil the paradise where” Kaangrian Falls” is situated.

From Metro Manila, you could either travel by air or by land. If you choose to travel by plane, it takes 45 minutes before landing to Laoag City International Airport. Basically, several airlines such as Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airline and Air Philippines have regular flights from Laoag City to Manila and vice versa.  On the other hand, if you would want to go site seeing and enjoy the scenes along the road, you could take a 12-hour bus ride from Manila to Laoag City. From the city proper, you have to once again take an approximately 1- hour travel from Laoag City to Burgos and you may ask the bus conductor to drop you at the Kaangrian Falls bus stop located just along the highway. From the highway, you can take a 5 kilometer tricycle ride to the head of the trail plus another 4 kilometer hike to the middle of the forest where you could find the spectacular falls which the locals are indeed proud of.

As a final say, we all know that the travel time from Manila to Burgos would be an arduous wait for an eagerly motivated nature tripper but once you get into the place, there is an assurance that all your stresses, pains and the feeling of being tired will all be eased out due to its jaw dropping beauty.  So witness Ilocos and witness the Ironic Beauty of Kaangrian Falls of Burgos.
